my comment about this book—— after reading for six weeks i found new things EG , cd examples, labs , etc. but it should have been prominent to any reader , what ever it is ,the authors duty to Make prominent about these good things, do not hide from readers, after reading for nearly two months still i dont know how to use the examples “insurance”
i thing there are good things in the book, but the (structure, easy referance, ) very very very poor. havent made any effort to understand about the reader difficulties ( we read a book because we want to understand somthing — if we know we wouldnt be reading your book ).
there are mistakes. the explanations are incomplete. but i managed to make use of the book after a big struggle. but still the most important area of iv6 —connecting to database – say access or any other not given any explanation what so ever. any one dosent have sql-server what is his position?
the most important reason why one will buy iv6 books are database connectivity and the problems which is not explained.
if you are willing to work very hard -lots of effort- then you this book is okay, unnecssary duplication after duplication,
lesson five connecting to database is where i have got stuck any body help me? theva@freenet.co.uk

It doesn’t even deserve 1 star but the Amazon rating system won’t let you choose 0. If you like debugging buggy Microsoft examples this is the book for you. This book (and the examples & solutions on the accompanying CD) are one of the best reasons why Microsoft ought to be broken up by antitrust laws. They are so big that they have no compelling reason to write books that are valuable resources, or products that work very well.

This is the first Microsoft press book on a Microsoft product that is so woeful that it broke my paradigm. Thank God, I have the MCSD curriculum which I switched to after enduring 3 gruelling chapters of this “Mastering” book. The MCSD book (also by Microsoft) is lovely and has an amazing Appendix at the back on VBScripting. The labs are alive and clarify the topics. This book is everything “Mastering” is not.
This Mastering book should be withdrawn. It is a disgrace to the Microsoft Press (coming from a Microsoft fan, you’d know this is serious). The practices are like quizzes and the labs like impregnable woods. They are more like a test of advanced knowledge, rather than a work-through. It systematically frustrates you.
A mastering book which does not teach you in a grounded manner but rather encourages you to copy sample codes and reuse is truly a marketing book, not a developer’s Mastering book.
If it got better after Chapter 3, then accept my reservations. But this book is still pooh, even if so. I would almost have asked for a refund, because I don’t want to keep seeing it. Someone may want to borrow it without my knowing and get their impressions of Visual InterDev seered. Pooh book!
Don’t buy this book if you want to learn and perfect VI. buy the MCSD book on VI 6.

but don’t expect this book to do much else for you. I received the book when I took an instructor-led class (#1017). During the class we did the labs, which were so-so. The instructor always had to point out errors in the text and instructions. The self-check questions at the end of each chapter had some benefit.
Don’t expect to pass the Visual InterDev exam (for MCSD certification) by either reading this book or taking Course #1017. Some of the information is included on the exam, but there isn’t enough detail or explanations in the text to prepare you. I just passed the exam this morning, but that’s because I used the online MeasureUp exams and studied the printouts. I found that to be far more beneficial.
This is a *lousy* reference book. I can’t imagine ever encountering a problem and wanting to look it up in here. It just isn’t designed for that purpose. I would rather find the info I need by searching the web.
If you are new to web development or InterDev, this book can help you get your feet wet. Otherwise, your money would be better spent elsewhere.

A well organized tutorial that stops short of telling you anything truly useful. The MSDN help is just as useful(less). Extremely disappointed in the lack of any discussion about installation of an application in any manner other than http deployment. Very little, if any, conceptual discussions.
